Obituary
Richard (Rich) Kenneth Chin, of Elwood, NY, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2022.
Rich was born on December 5th, 1956 to Cliff and Marie Chin in Astoria, Queens. The family moved to Flushing, Queens, where he attended elementary school at PS21, Bleeker Junior High, and then Flushing High School. It was there where Rich forged friendships with so many of his schoolmates – friendships that would last a lifetime.
In high school Rich spent his summers working at the Happy Days Ranch in Bethel, New York where his love of horses and horseback riding began. He created lasting memories that included leading group trail rides, riding horses bareback through the fields at night and cow tipping (or so the story goes…), amongst other fun activities.
In the summer of 1979, Rich embarked on a cross-country road trip with one of his best friends that would become one of the most memorable highlights of his life.
In 1980, Rich met Ronnie, fell in love, and officially became team R&R in 1984. They went on to have two beautiful children, Greg and Stacey, and spent over 40 wonderful years together.
Rich had a long and successful career in the insurance industry. After retirement, Rich spent time with his wife enjoying their love of outdoor activities which included golfing and fishing, trying new eateries (while he loved all foods, his love of Chinese food was unmatched), and traveling, to name a few.
Rich will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, his kind, generous, and fun-loving personality in addition to being a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife Ronnie; son Greg (Ryan) Chin; daughter Stacey (Steve) Longo; grandson Lucas Longo; parents Cliff and Marie Chin; brothers, Peter (Gail) Chin and Kenneth (Suzy) Chin; in addition to many extended family members.

Dear Ronnie and family,
There are not enough words to express to you with the loss of Rich. We have known each other for a lifetime seeing each other at so many wonderful family events. More great times than sad times. We will always remember our conversations about foods, vacations and family. Rich was a truly wonderful son, husband, father, uncle and friend. Thank you Rich for sharing your meaningful life with us. Rest in heaven and I know you will be sending us some kind of advice some way or the other.

Sending deep condolences to the whole family and all those who loved him. Rich(Dickie) and I were close friends and neighbors for many years. We experienced a lot together and I’ve always cherished my memories of all the things we did and learned together. From playing basketball to studying guitar together and so much more. The Chin family always welcomed and included me-I’ll always be grateful. May your spirit soar free of pain my friend. Your memory will always be a blessing .

Dickie is my brother and I love him - much more than I ever told him or expressed to him. When I was in elementary school and he was in high school - I looked up to him wanted to be just like him - popular, athletic and with a great group of friends. Mark taught me about basketball, Gary took me on my 12th birthday to pick up my present - a dog, Petey always at our house, Suzie Kaye next door, and many others. He was my big brother who took me around, protected me and was always there for me. He was a very special person with a huge heart that everyone could not only see but felt in their relationships with him. As someone else said - he was the glue that held us together - he was always the one that kept a relationship with our relatives and his lifelong friends. One of the best times we spent together was when he first got out of chemo 12 years ago. We went to Longboat key with our parents and sat on the beach and there's a picture of three bald men - Dicky, me and my father on the beach with a vivid blue sky in the background. He gave the nickname Waboba to Alex, his nephew, named after a ball that they tossed around in the ocean on that trip. His last words to Alex were 'Wabobas forever". Dickie was a shining star in this world and it's a much lesser place without him.

I recently moved back east after many years away from new york. I was blessed in having Rich ( and Ronnie) as my upstairs neighbors. i would come home stressed often from my job and would run in to Rich who always had the right words for me . He was such a soft gentle person and I felt i was cheated throughout my life that I only had the three tuffest years of his to share . I spoke of his kindness to my childhood friends often as he has had such a tremendous effect on how i view myself and how i should live the rest of my life . I miss him ! He still owes me golf .

Richard was my dear friend for over 55 years. We spent our childhood together from the 3rd grade all through our Flushing High School years.
He worked with me at Pearland for nearly 19 years and he served as a board member of Hereford Insurance Company.
Richard (Dicky, Chinzy) was the glue that helped to keep our Flushing gang close , always quick with jokes and a smile.
While enduring his illness he never gave up, his relentless positive outlook proved to me he truly is my hero.
His love for family and friends is truly an example to be followed.
Richard will be missed but never forgotten.
Oceans of love

All of my love and condolences to the Chins. I will never forget the first time meeting Rich, all the way in Florence, Italy while my dear friend (his son) Greg was studying abroad. Such a bright and vibrant man and I will always picture him that way. With a big smile, a belly full of delicious pasta and a heart full of very visible love for his family. May he forever rest in peace.

Words cant describe my feelings for this family. I love them all, and your grief is my grief. My heart is broken at the loss of one of the kindest, most generous men I've ever known. He will be missed for eternity. May his memories bring you peace. And I will be there for my dear Ronnie, when she is ready.

Richard was one of a kind. Loyal, loving, funny. He talked about his family with such pride and joy (especially Ronnie’s baking!). We had a shared love of baked pork buns and brought them for each other whenever we could. It was a pleasure to work with him and know him. I hope he is enjoying a cannoli cake or some delicious dessert knowing how loved he will always be!

When we think about Rich, we think about that yummy apple pie he brought to us before Thanksgiving a couple of years ago. But that’s not all. Rich brought himself and that was better than the apple pie.
He was the most generous person, we know. Generous with his heart and mind. He was a pleasure to have as a guest in our home, but more important, as a friend.
Rich was a loving husband to RONNIE. That was obvious in the way he would glance at her as she carried on a conversation.
As you all know, Rich lost his battle with cancer, but he showed all who knew him the type of person he was… a fighter. Fighters sometimes lose, but Rich leaves behind a legacy that is inspiring to all who knew him.
Goodbye, Rich. Our lives were made a little brighter by the sun, which shown in your smile.
