Obituary

June 28, 1943 – September 13, 2024 Salvatore Lavoratore, age 81, passed peacefully on September 13, 2024, after a brief illness. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Maria, and his cherished children Frank and daughter-in-law Lisa, and Anthony and daughter-in-law Lori. Salvatore was a proud and loving grandfather (grandpa) to Sal and Marisa and a devoted brother to Tonino and Alfredo. Born in the village of Rovito in Italy, to Francesco and Barbara, Salvatore learned his lifelong craft of tailoring and suit-making in his homeland. After a brief time in Canada, he returned to Italy, where he married Maria. They then moved to Brooklyn, NY, where they welcomed their sons, Frank and Anthony. In 1977, the family relocated to Queens, and later to Hicksville in 1993. In 1988, Salvatore opened Continental Valet Cleaners in Huntington, where he became renowned for his meticulous alterations and his commitment to making every client’s special occasion memorable. His warmth and attention to detail made him a cherished part of many celebrations. Active members of Our Lady of Mercy Church, Salvatore and Maria found solace in their faith. Even when unable to attend mass in person, Salvatore stayed connected by tuning into live Sunday broadcasts from the Vatican. In retirement, Salvatore and Maria embraced the best of both worlds, spending winters in Hallandale Beach, FL, and the rest of the year on Long Island. They enjoyed sunny days at the beach, sharing laughter and stories with family and friends.

.

Salvatore had a remarkable memory and was known for his engaging stories, contagious laugh, and up-to-date knowledge of current events. His gentle kindness extended to all, especially children and animals. Sundays were reserved for family dinners, accompanied by a glass of homemade wine. A dedicated fan of Juventus soccer, Salvatore never missed a game and took immense pride in living the American dream. He cherished time spent with his brothers, cousins and friends. Salvatore’s family and friends will deeply miss his warm smile, and heartfelt embraces. His legacy of love and joy will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, September 18th, at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, in Hicksville, NY. Reposing at Chapey & Sons (Bethpage) Funeral Home, at 20 Hicksville Road, on Tuesday, September 17th from 3:00PM until 5:00PM and 7:00PM until 9:30PM. www.chapeyfamily.com.
