Obituary

Eileen Watters (nee Sanna), 59, of Oakdale died peacefully on June 18, 2024. She is survived by her loving husband of 26 years, James, their children Patrick, Ryan, Kevin, and Aileen, and her siblings Ann Marie Wisniewski (the late Richard), Michael Sanna (Patricia), and Catherine Fenlon (Sean), devoted in-laws Cathy and Jim Watters, and adoring nieces, nephews, and 3 great-nieces. She was predeceased by her parents Mary and Thomas Sanna. Eileen gathered loyal friends throughout each stage of her life, many of whom were with her in her final days, along with her family. A graduate of SUNY Farmingdale, Eileen spent several years managing a medical practice at NYU in Manhattan, left to raise her four children, and returned to the workforce as a teacher’s assistant at Bosti Elementary in Oakdale. Over the years, she volunteered as a Youth Group leader at St. Peter’s Church in Islip Terrace, and later at Saint John Nepomucene in Bohemia in addition to teaching CCD. Eileen loved keeping active, especially outdoors– rollerblading, cycling, skiing, kayaking, and the infamous family volleyball tournaments which never failed to bring out her competitive spirit. She will be greatly missed for her devotion to her family and friends, her fun-loving spirit, and her impressive roster of baked goods. Alzheimer’s Disease stole her memory, but Eileen never lost her love of life; you were greeted with her beautiful smile until the very end. Eileen’s family requests donations in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center in East Islip where she spent many afternoons painting and enjoying live music.
