Obituary

John F Mihalo, age 91, of Bay Shore, New York sadly left us Friday, April 12, 2024. John, known as Jack to his friends and family, was born in Stamford, Ct to John J Mihalo and Elizabeth Laslo and is predeceased by his brother Robert M Mihalo of Houston, TX. Jack attended John Adams High School and Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute, working briefly at Pfizer in Brooklyn before entering the service. He served in the Air National Guard and achieved the rank of Captain in the U S Air Force and Major during his service in the Marines serving a total of 26 years in the military. He then enjoyed a career as captain for American Airlines until his retirement. Jack was very active in his community, serving as president of his neighborhood Civic Association , parishioner and member of the planning committee for fundraiser dances, including Mardi Gras, April in Paris, and Hawaii, as well as restoration committee at St. Patrick’s Church in Bay Shore. He was instrumental in the planning committee for the preservation of Gardiner Park in Bay Shore. Jack is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joan Schleehauf Mihalo, his children John Stephen, Celeste (Elizabeth), Gerard (Jennifer) and predeceased by his infant daughter Alyson. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kasie, Katie, Ava, Jake and Andrew and five great grandchildren, Bailey, Johnny, Tommy, Jake and Declan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital and the Smile Train.
