A TRUE LONG "ISLANDER"

Joseph Henry Dreyer, Jr, Joe to anyone who knew him, passed today after battling kidney failure for 5 years. Joe was 83. Joe is survived by his wife Julia (Judy) Dreyer, and his 4 children, Judi Soro and her husband James, Debbie Webber, Joseph Dreyer III and his wife Marlo, Amy Kuchler and her husband Adam, and his sister Joan, husband Robert. Joe had 8 grandchildren, David Soro, Kristen Soro, Daniel Webber, Andrew Webber, Heather Dreyer, Hayley Dreyer, Addison Kuchler and Abigale Kuchler. He was born in Jamaica, NY but moved to the suburbs of Long Island (Bellmore) as a young man. After marrying, Joe and Judy moved to West Islip where they raised their 4 children and lived for 55 years. Joe has an accounting degree from Hofstra University. After graduating, Joe worked at Hofstra as an accountant and was later recruited by the NY Islanders in 1972 to be the controller of the NY Nets and NY Islanders. As the Islanders organization grew, so did Joe’s career. He would eventually rise to the position of Vice President of Administration of the NY Islanders, a 4 time Stanley Cup winning franchise. At this time, he was also a board member of the Salvation Army. After 25 years, Joe said goodbye to the Islanders and took on a new opportunity as Assistant to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement for Suffolk Community College. He used his Long Island roots to help the college grow through fundraising. He went on to retire from Suffolk Community college at age 70.

.

He spent his retirement giving back, working for Habitat for Humanity. He and Judy also traveled the world and created some great memories. When they weren’t traveling, they spent summers at their vacation home at Brant Lake in the Adirondacks with family and friends. In his final days, he let those who love him know that he had a great life, and no regrets. A memorial visitation will be held at The Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons West Islip Funeral Home, 1225 Montauk Hwy. (1/4 mile west of the Robert Moses Cswy.) on Friday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a prayer service that will start at 7:00 pm. www.chapeyfamily.com
