Obituary

Monique H. Dolan (Monica), formerly of Great River, NY, peacefully entered into eternal rest on January 9, 2024, following a brief illness. She was 93. Monica was born in NYC to Alfred and Helene Dumaresq, and raised in Lindenhurst, NY, with her seven siblings. Family was very important to Monica and to her devoted husband of more than 60 years, Thomas P. Dolan (deceased). Together they raised their five children in a home which valued family, church, community and country. Monica was a very active member of her church, St. Mary’s in East Islip, NY. She was in the Rosary Altar Society, The Third Order of St. Francis (a Franciscan for over 60 years), and the Peace and Justice Committee. She also volunteered her time to many social, civic and political events, and spoke before the Nuclear Regulatory Agency in her quest to close Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant and keep Long Islanders safe.

Monica is predeceased by her children Patrick Dolan and Rita Dolan Nicho, and her brothers Eugene and Paul Dumaresq. She is survived by her loving daughters and spouses: Eileen and James Gratson, Veronica and Edward Musa, Jeanette and Michael Chickara. Monica was also a grandmother to 11 grandchildren: Patrick and Robert Nicho, Gavin and Kate Gratson, Danielle (Musa) Mullen, Brendan, Skylar, Jaclyn and Rebecca Musa, Kevin and Nicole Chickara, and a great-grandmother to Rylee Nicho and Eric Mullen. Monica also leaves behind her siblings Sylvia Meade, Louise O’Brien, Frederick Dumaresq, Irene Kost, and Richard Dumaresq, as well as 19 nieces and nephews. Visitation for family and friends will take place at Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons Funeral Home, 200 Main St., East Islip, NY 11730 on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm.
