Obituary

With broken hearts we announce that on December 11, 2023 our loving Mother, Mary Mawn age 91 of Levittown, NY passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Mary was born on April 9, 1932 in Bronx, NY to Spencer & Lillian White where her family resided until they moved to Floral Park, NY where she spent her life as an active member of her church parish where she met her loving Husband and our loving father Tom. Mom and Dad met when they were part of the Gregorian Society at a dance at St. Gregory’s Roman Catholic Church in Bellrose. Together they volunteered often in Bellrose. They both worked for banks. Dad worked for Citibank and Mom for Chemical Bank in New York City across the street from one another, so they found out after they began to date. Tom & Mary married on September 28, 1963. They lived for a short time in New Hyde Park NY and then moved to Levittown, NY in 1965. Dad and Mom were members of St. Bernard’s Church for 58 Years. St. Bernard’s was where they raised a loving family. They sent us to St Bernard's School and gave us a firm foundation of faith. We all knew how to find God, how to be good moral people how to be respectful, how to be kind, how to treat others, how to love and we all were thankful for these important life lessons. If any of us did not know how to be the best we could be it certainly was not because of Mom and Dad together showing us - they taught us how to be the best of who they were. Mom was amazing, she embodied all of these things she taught us and more along with Daddy. Together they took such good care of us always. She was a tutor for reading at St Bernard's as we got a little older. She taught Religious Education at St. Bernard's for many years and received a religious award for doing so.

.

She worked at BOCES Pasadena School in Plainview as a Teacher Assistant for many years with children with special needs and enjoyed this so. She and Daddy worked at the St Bernard's Bazaar for many years, they loved this. The Levittown Kiwanis Club was their "other family" they were intertwined with their loving friends, Dad was the member, Mom always by his side involved just as he was. They ran the special needs children Christmas party and took such pride in doing so they also were a part of the Levittown Kiwanis Terrific Kids Program each year. Mom was "the Love of Dad's Life" as he would proudly say when speaking to her and of her. She is predeceased by her husband Tom Mawn and daughter Patricia Marie Mawn, her father and mother Spencer and Lillian White, Brother Jimmy (Mary) White, Sister Jane (Don) Gates, Lillian (Bill) Clark and nephew Paul Gates, Brother-In Law John (Marie) Mawn and loving family members. She is survived by her Daughter MaryPat (Kenny) Morra; Daughter Joan Marie (Robert) Grosso and Son Thomas E. Mawn lll; Grandchildren Matthew(Krista), Kimberly, Danny (Hazel), Valerie (Anthony), Kerri (Chris) and Kristen; Great Grandchildren Kaylee and Lucas, Sister Fran (Bob) Hanson and Brother Tommy (Dotty),Brother-In-Law Rusty (Kathy) Mawn and Sister-In-Law Cecelia (Gus) Herman;twenty nine nieces and nephews, their husbands and wives and many great nieces and nephews, their loving Levittown Kiwanis Family and many extended family members and friends who loved her so much. She had a tremendous love for St. Bernard’s Church and The Levittown Kiwanis Club. A donation in her memory to either would do what she loved most … Love, Give and Help Others.
