Obituary

John was born in Brooklyn, New York and moved to West Babylon as a teenager. John retired from Grumman Aerospace after 32 years in the printing department. He started a “retirement job” as a general maintenance mechanic for the Village of Babylon where he mostly tended to the beautiful flowers that adorn the Village, and made the signature wooden street signs that Babylon is known for. He was affectionately called “water John” and this “retirement job” lasted 24 years, ending on the day he passed. He is survived by his wife Florence of 59 years, and was a proud father to Loretta Corbisiero-Drakos and her husband William Drakos, John Berhalter and his wife Laura and Debra Berhalter Cartelli and her husband Joe. He was the most loving grandfather to Kristyn & Alex Corbisiero, Gina & Matthew Berhalter, and Vincent Cartelli. He is survived by his siblings Robert Berhalter, Raymond Berhalter, his wife Sally, Rosemarie Berhalter Pipher, her husband Kevin, and all of their children. His loving heart left beauty and light for his family, friends, and all in the community. Reposing at The Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons West Islip Funeral Home, 1225 Montauk Hwy. (1/4 mile west of the Robert Moses Cswy.). Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial Monday 9:30 AM at St. Joseph’s RC Church, Babylon, LI. Interment to follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY. Visiting Sunday 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
