Obituary

Mary A. Rinklin Loving Wife, Caring Mother, and Fun-Loving Friend Mary A. Rinklin 1923 – 2023 Long-time Babylon Village resident Mary A. Rinklin, 99, died peacefully at home on June 4, and she was surrounded by her family. Mary and her loving and late husband, John G. Rinklin, Jr., lived in the same house for more than 70 years, and this is where the couple raised their five children. Their welcoming home was the center of decades of joyous celebrations. Mary and John were the foundation of our family and they loved, guided, and sustained us through times of happiness and periods of difficulty. Mary also enjoyed cruising with John and their many friends on the Great South Bay aboard their powerboat, the Alley Cat. Mary was an active member of the Babylon Yacht Club for more than seven decades. Mary also enjoyed sunbathing and swimming at the club and nearby ocean beaches with her children, grandchildren, and a large community of friends.

.

An avid bridge player, Mary was part of a weekly bridge club well into her 90s. As a staff member at the Babylon Public Library, Mary took pride in serving children, teens, and adults. Mary was a life-long reader who enjoyed books, magazines, and newspapers. Annually, each spring Mary, John, and their children joined the convoy of local families that drove to New Smyrna Beach, Fla. They enjoyed weeks of relaxation in this seaside community. Born in Huntington, New York in September 1923, Mary is the daughter of the late Elizabeth (Bishop) Archer and Roy Archer, and she is one of six siblings. She is survived by Robert Archer, her brother, and Elizabeth (Archer) Erickson, her sister. The loving mother of five children, Mary is survived by Cynthia Feigin of Montreal, Bobby and (Nicole) Rinklin, of Cedar Grove, N.J., Mary Beth and (Michael) Cannetti of West Islip, N.Y., Susan and (Jimmy) Dunne of West Palm Beach, Fla., and John and (Lynel) Rinklin of Reading, Mass.

.

Mary was extraordinarily proud and devoted grandmother of 12 and great grandmother of seven. Mary truly loved life as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Her legacy lives on in many treasured memories, and she will always be fondly remembered. Family, friends and loved ones are invited to Mary’s viewing at The Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons Funeral Home (1225 Montauk Highway, West Islip, N.Y.) on Monday, June 12 from 2:00 until 4:00 PM and 7:00 until 9:00 PM. A funeral mass is scheduled for Tuesday, June 13 at 9:30 AM in St. Joseph’s R.C. Church (39 N. Carll Avenue, Babylon, N.Y. 11702). A Celebration of Mary’s Life will take place this fall.
