Obituary

Sam E. Guglielmo of Red Bank, N.J., died on Jan. 23 from complications of Covid-19 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. He was 64. Born in Mount Vernon, N.Y., to Mary Frances and Ernest Guglielmo, Sam lived in The Bronx before moving to East Islip on Long Island in 1968. He worked as a bouncer and bartender at many Islip-area locations – including Hutley’s and P.J. Murray’s – before becoming an owner of P.J. Murray’s, a sports bar in East Islip, around 1980. He moved to New Jersey in 1995 and became the director of Government and Education at Toshiba Business Solutions. He loved the Yankees and boating and fishing. He had a love-hate relationship with the Jets. Sam lived in Leonardo, N.J., for 25 years before moving to Red Bank two years ago. He is survived by his wife, Laura Craven; his son, Brandon; his sister, Kathy (Stephen) Grathwohl of Islip Terrace, N.Y.; and his brother, Robert (Blanca) Guglielmo of Zebulon, Ga. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Rosemary Craven of Henderson, Nv.; his brothers- and sisters- in-law, Jean Ann (Jerry) Holihan of Henderson, Nv., Raymond Craven of Islip Terrace, Thomas (Fathim) Craven of Owings Mills, Md.; Rosemary Hansen and Vijay Iyer of East Amherst, N.Y., Jenna (Brian) Rush of Redondo Beach, Ca., and Ann Marie (Gautham) Craven-Adithya of Manhattan; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, at the Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons Funeral Home, Inc., 200 East Main St., East Islip, N.Y.
