Obituary of Pasquale F. Caligiuri

Caligiuri, Pasquale (Pat) F., died peacefully surrounded by family on December 31, 2016. Born in Italy on October 15, 1925 to Domenik and Rosina Caligiuri, Pat immigrated to the United States in 1930. He grew up in Brooklyn, NY with his two younger sisters, Dorie(deceased) and Ada. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served for 3 years in the Pacific on a landing ship as a navigator. He went to Hunter College in NY under the G.I. bill receiving a B.A. in Economics in 1950. Soon after graduating, he began a long, prestigious career with the Social Security Administration rising to the top executive position of Associate Commissioner. Pat married Rita Mary Garrettson in 1954 and together they raised 5 children in West Islip, NY. Rita Mary passed away in 1970 and Pat married Bernadette Tucker in 1974 who had 4 children. They moved south to Maryland and then to Florida where they gave birth to a son in 1981. Pat became an entrepreneur in Florida, owning and operating 6 Midas Muffler shops, several insurance offices and buying and selling real estate. He worked well into his 80’s. Pat lost his wife Bernadette in December of 2015. Pat was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and he lived for his family. He enjoyed boating, and skiing with his family over many years. Pat is survived by 7 sons, Gary, Michael, Joseph, Frank, Harry, Jay and Patrick and 3 daughters; Patricia, Katie and Coleen. He is also survived by his sister, Ada, 21 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 6th between 2:00 and 4:30 PM and also 7:00 and 9:00 PM at The Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons West Islip Funeral Home, 1225 Montauk Hwy (¼ mile west of the Robert Moses Cswy). Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, January 7th at 11:30 AM at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Bay Shore, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Pasquale’s memory to be made to Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation, 1000 Montauk Hwy., West Islip, NY 11795.
