Obituary

It is with much love and deep sorrow that the family of Samuel Menna (Sam) of Islip, NY mourn his passing on October 2, 2021 at the age of 82. He will be forever remembered and deeply missed by his wife, Eleanor, his daughters, Regina and Natalie, his sons Christopher and Jerry Sam, and his son-in-law, Jim. He was dearly loved by his grandchildren, Veronica, her husband, Kyle, James, Thomas, John, Stephanie and Caroline. He will be missed profoundly by his numerous cousins and his many close friends, nephews, nieces, and in-laws. Sam was born in the Bronx, but moved to Williamsburg, Brooklyn at the age of two where he spent his childhood and early adult years in a close-knit enclave of family and fellow Italian-Americans. As a young boy, he worked for his father in his butcher shop: went on to gain an associate degree in business and eventually work for Grumman Aircraft on the special project of the moon landing in 1969. He then began a career in Long Island real estate that he continued until a year before passing. He enjoyed returning to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel’s annual Feast every July to reunite with old friends and to celebrate and share stories. A wake will be held on Wed. Oct. 6 at Chapey Funeral Home, 200 East Main Street in East Islip from 3-5 PM and 7-9:30 PM. On Thursday, Oct.7, a funeral mass will be held at 11 AM at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church on Montauk Hwy in Bay Shore, N.Y. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery on Brentwood Road, Bay Shore, N.Y. The family wishes to send a sincere thank you to the staff at the Affinity Rehabilitation Facility in Oakdale, New York for their kind, gentle, and persistent care of Sam in his last days.
