Obituary

Gordon, John D. "Jack"—March 20, 1926-June 26, 2021 of West Islip, LI. Formerly of Forest Hills, NY. John was a proud World War II Coast Guard Veteran. Cherished and devoted husband of the late Dolores V. Gordon, for more than 73 years; the beloved father of Dolores (Rick) Thaxter, John D. (Diane) Gordon, Jr., Kathleen (the late Steve Beckman) Barnes, Kevin (Maureen) Gordon, Brian (Ann Marie) Gordon, Eileen (Frank) Maffei, Thomas (Carol) Gordon, and Timothy (Amy) Gordon. The most amazing grandfather to his 20 grandchildren and their spouses, and his 38 great grandchildren. Beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews and friend to all. Predeceased by his parents and two siblings. John was a proud member of the Division 7 Ancient Order of Hibernians and the West Islip American Legion, Post 1738. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him, but his kindness, sense of humor and his great love will remain with us all. Reposing at the Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons East Islip Funeral Home, (1/2 mile west of the S.S. Parkway, Exit 45W). Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church, West Islip, LI on Thursday, July 1st at 9:30 AM. Interment to follow at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton LI. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations can be made in John’s loving memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to the Rollstone Foundation, 23 Candee Avenue, Suite E, Sayville, NY 11782.
