Obituary

Rachel Kaylor 1950-2021 Someday I'll wish upon a star Wake up where the clouds are far behind me Where trouble melts like lemon drops High above the chimney tops that's where You'll find me, oh Somewhere over the rainbow. Rachel Kaylor (née Ruda), age 70 of Bethpage, New York, passed away Friday, April 16, 2021 after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Rachel was truly a one-of-a-kind Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt, and her favorite title of all...Yaya. To be loved by her was such an incredible gift. She will always be remembered for her unforgettable laugh, contagious smile, unwavering strength, compassion, and generosity. She lived every day for the love of her family and she leaves behind a void none could fill. Born on November 25, 1950 in Brooklyn, New York to Joseph and Candida (Giordano) Ruda, Rachel graduated from East Meadow High School where, through her dear cousin Trudy, she met and married George H. Kaylor, her forever love and best friend. On June 13, 2020 they celebrated 50 years of marriage and together they had two children and 6 grandchildren. She liked to say, “Every age has its gifts, but I loved my forties the best. I really loved being a mom.” Rachel was a stay-at-home mom and she threw herself fully into the role with her whole heart. Every school project, band concert, book report, scraped knee, smile or frown, Rachel was there with her big smile and warm hug. When she wasn’t cooking up the best darn baked ziti you’d ever taste, Rachel also spent time volunteering as a Sunday School teacher alongside her best friend Nancy, at St. Bernard’s Church in Levittown, New York, and supporting countless organizations through her incredible philanthropic spirit

.

Rachel is survived by her husband, George H. Kaylor Sr., her children and grandchildren: George & Diane Kaylor and their son Brandon, Samantha & Joshua Courtney and their children Evelyn, Thomas, Charlotte, Edward, & Hannah, her sister Renee Aviano and husband Rocco, mother-in-law Angela Kaylor, and her niece & nephews: Joseph DeVito, Anthony DeVito, Amy Gajewski, Brian Garthwaite and their families. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, aunts & uncles, and her dearest friend. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, April 20th from 4:00 - 8:00pm at Chapey & Sons Funeral Home (Bethpage, New York) and a Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 21st at 9:30am at St. James Church (Seaford, New York). In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you please consider donating to the National MS Society via the Rachel Kaylor Memorial Fund to help find a cure at: https://mssociety.donordrive.com/campaign/Rachel-Kaylor-Memorial-Fund
