Obituary

Haag - Ray Allen, MD – 11/25/24 – 11/29/20. Born, Oregon City, raised in Tacoma and Seattle, Washington. Graduate of Stadium High School, Tacoma, University of Washington, Seattle and in 1948 from Cornell Medical College. Survived by wife, Maureen (Ann Maureen Dennis), their children, Ray Jr. (Jill), grandchildren Rae and Jude; Elizabeth, MD and partner, Craig Dellavecchia and Christian. Also survived by children, Janice Veryzer (John), Jon (Kelley), Lawrence (the late Susan) and Martha Haag (Jean Mills). Fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Also, brothers-in-law, William Dennis (Catherine) and Vincent Dennis. Sisters, Barbara (Steve) Drowne and Alice Dennis. Nieces and Nephews from New York, Mass, So. Carolina, Oregon and Washington State. Predeceased by Parents, Elizabeth & Rudolph Haag, Brothers Rudolph and Marshall, Sister Alta (Ashley) Kirkman and Daughter, Kathryn Haag Clauss. Ray was an avid fisherman and tennis player. He served in the US Army in Japan as a surgeon during the Korean War. In 1955 he joined the practice of Dr. John O’Connor in Bay Shore. He retired in 2010.

He was a board member and then the President of Islip Board of Education from 1964 until December 1976. Past Commodore of Bayberry Yacht Club; past President of St. Peter’s by the Sea Day School’s Board of Education, member of the development of St. John the Baptist Dioceses High School, member of the Special Gifts Committee for the Bay Shore YMCA, Vice Chairman for the 1st Annual Southside Hospital Ball in 1989, past President of the O-Co’nee Association and the Mr. & Mrs. Club of Bay Shore. Past Honoree of Bay Shore Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, Suffolk Speech & Hearing Annual Cocktail party and Southside’s Annual Food & Wine Expo. He was a Police Surgeon for Suffolk County from 1991-2011. He was Emeritus Chief of Orthopedic Surgery and past Senior Attending at Good Samaritan Hospital. Emeritus Board Member of Bay Shore Chamber of Commerce, Emeritus Fleet Surgeon of Bay Shore Yacht Club. Reposing at The Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons East Islip Funeral Home, 200 East Main Street (1/2 mile west of the S.S. Parkway, Exit 45W). Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church, Bay Shore, LI on Saturday at 9:30 AM. Interment to be held privately. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Northwell Hospice Care Network, St. Patrick’s Hospitality Center or Southside Hospital.
