Obituary

Eileen A. Cain, 93, of Bellerose, NY and lately of Charlotte, NC, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2020 in Charlotte. She was born to parents Alicia Robbins (Cullen) and James Burtis Robbins on March 15, 1927 in Brooklyn NY. The New York Daily News that day read "Bouncing Baby Girl Bounces into Brooklyn" as she arrived in a taxi cab ready to make her mark in the world. She was immensely proud of this claim to fame. Eileen married the late Francis X. Cain on Jan 20, 1951 and moved from Brooklyn to Queens where they raised their 8 children. She is survived by 7 children and is known to her 21 grandchildren as "Sweet Grandma". She is also survived by 6 great grandchildren. Her surviving children include: Gregory F. Cain (JoAnne) of Old Lyme, Ct, Helen F. Tierney (William) of Denver, Co, Patricia A. Caragher (Thomas) of Charlotte, NC, Francis X. Cain of Wilmington, NC, Maureen F. Haining (Gregg) of Rockport, ME, Eileen Garwood (Terry) of Fort Wayne, and and Kevin (Mary) Cain of Coram, NY. She was preceded in death in 2006 by her husband of 55 years, Francis X. Cain, and in 2018 by her daughter Regina Francis Marrero.

.

When she wasn't folding laundry, she worked weekends and holidays in the admitting office of Deepdale General Hospital. After a sabbatical at this job she returned to work faced with technological changes that came with the arrival of the computer. She took on these challenges and conquered them with her typical gracious aplomb and intelligence. Between jobs as mother and hospital worker, she succeeded in making her mark on the world with her unequivocal kindness, optimism, patience and empathy for all those who had the privilege to meet her.Tea, a blueberry toastie and a willingness to listen was always served if you ended up in her kitchen! She loved the Lord deeply and her Catholic faith and trust in the Good Lord gave her great strength. Mom 'loved us all dearly' and she was dearly loved. The funeral service will be held at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Rocky Point, NY on Friday July 17.Burial will follow at the Calverton National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to: Parkinson's Foundation 200 SE 1st Street Suite 800 Miami, FL 33131 or Charlotte Hospice & Palliative Care PO Box 470408 Charlotte, NC 28247
