Obituary of Jeremiah J. Weaver, Jr.

Jeremiah J. Weaver, 86, formerly of Deer Park, NY, died Sunday evening, April 22, 2018 at the Nesconset Center for Nursing, Nesconset, NY, after a long illness.

Services will be Friday, April 27, 1 pm, at Chapey Funeral Home, 20 Hicksville Rd, Bethpage, NY. Interment will follow at Bethpage United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Calling hours are Thursday, April 26, 7-9:30 pm at Chapey Funeral Home, or one hour prior to the service.

In addition, a Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, June 9th. Time and Long Island location to be determined.

Jeremiah was born 1931 in Queens, NY, the son of Jeremiah J. and Julia K. Weaver of Williston Park, NY and married Ruth A. Winkler on Nov. 26, 1960 in Lawyersville, NY.

He was a 1949 graduate of Mineola High School in NY and earned his bachelor’s degree from Adelphi College and a master’s degree from Columbia Teacher’s College. He served in the US Army Band as a trumpet player.

He was a resident of Deer Park since 1963. He was an elementary music teacher in the Deer Park School District from 1958 to 1991. He served as an organist and choir director for St. Paul’s Reformed church in North Babylon, NY for many years.

Surviving are his wife Ruth (Winkler) Weaver; children Alicia (Tim) Archer, Fulton, NY, Tyler (Andrea) Bronx, NY, and Christina Jackson of Coram, NY; grandchildren, Rebecca Jackson, Leah Jackson, Christopher Costello, Nick Costello, Joshua Jackson, Annaliese Archer, Nathaniel Archer, and Isaiah Jackson; brothers-in-law Marvin (Nancy) Kragt of Washington, and Edward (Nancy) Winkler of Headland, Alabama.

His father died in 1974 and his mother in 1994. Jeremiah was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth (Marvin) Kragt of Orrville, Ohio and sister-in-law, Doris (Winkler) Lindsey.
