Obituary of George F. Sheehan

Sheehan, George F., of Bay Shore, LI, on Septmber 17, 2017. Beloved husband of the late Margo Sheehan. Devoted father of Barbara Brownyard, Douglas Sheehan, Janet Gestal and the late George F. Sheehan, Jr. and Constance Amon. Cherished grandfather of eleven and great grandfather of eight. Dear brother of Robert Sheehan. Mr. Sheehan was a Certified Public Accountant and practiced as a sole proprietor from 1954 to 1969. He then formed Sheehan & Company, C.P.A., P.C. and served as Managing  Partner until his retirement in 1987. Mr. Sheehan was active on behalf of Good Samaritan Hospital for more than 25 years. He served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of that institution between 1980 and 1982. Mr. Sheehan lived in the Bay Shore/Babylon community for over 45 years. He grew up in Queens and was a graduate of Pace University. He also served as a trustee of the Bay Shore/Brightwaters Public Library.  During World War II, he served as a Bombadier-Navigator in the Army Air Corps. He flew over 35 combat missions before being shot down over Germany and taken prisoner. He was interred in the Stalag Luft I until liberated. Reposing at The Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons West Islip Funeral Home, 1225 Montauk Hwy. (1/4 mile west of the Robert Moses Cswy.). Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial Wednesday 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church, Bay Shore, LI. Interment to follow at Long Island National Cemetery, Pinelawn, NY. Visiting  Tuesday 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations in Mr. Sheehan’s name may be made to St. Patrick’s R.C. Church, 9 North Clinton Ave., Bay Shore, NY 11706 or a charity of your choice.
