Obituary of Muriel C. Smith

SMITH – Muriel C. formerly of West Babylon, died in Knoxville,
Tennessee on July 21, 2017. Her sister Bernadette O’Brien, daughter Deborah S. Lorenz and son, Timothy M. Geoghegan, survive her. Her grandchildren Brian, Brendan and Colin Geoghegan, Kay Lorenz Young and Peter Lorenz also survive her. Her husbands, Peter F. Geoghegan and James J. Smith, predeceased her. Muriel was born March 5, 1920 in New York City and grew up in Mineola, NY and Ocean Gate, NJ. She is a graduate of St. Joseph’s College, Patchogue, NY. Her careers included working with the First Air Force in Mitchell Field, Long Island and almost 30 years with Suffolk County Department of Social Services. She was a past Grand Regent of the
Catholic Daughters of America, St. Joseph’s Parish and volunteered at the Church’s Outreach Program. She was also a member of the Baxter Guild of the Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center and was inducted into the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. Reposing at The Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons West Islip Funeral Home, 1225 Montauk Hwy. (1/4 mile west of Robert Moses Cswy.). Visiting hours are Sunday, July 30, 2017 from 2:00 PM until 4:30 PM and 7:00 PM until 9:30 PM. Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial, Monday, July 31, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph's RC Church, 39 North Carll Avenue, Babylon, LI. Interment to follow at Long Island National Cemetery, Pinelawn, LI. Contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church, 39 N. Carll Ave., Babylon, NY 11702 or the Hospice Foundation of America.
