Obituary

Eileen Catherine Hand, of Islip, NY, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2024. Eileen was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY to the late Peter and Catherine McBride (nee Cunnane). She cherished being the beloved wife of the late Richard Hand. She took great pride in her role as the mother of Peter (Maureen) Creamer and the late James Creamer. Her greatest joy was as grandmother to James Creamer, Colleen (David) Creamer-McArdle, Kyle Creamer, Patrick Creamer and Dennis Creamer and great-grandmother of Maren McArdle. The abounding love she had for them will never be forgotten. Eileen believed that her family was her anchor in life. The strong bond she had with her siblings Peter McBride, Patrick McBride, Maureen Conway, and the late Theresa Donahue, as well as her beloved nieces and nephews was evident to all who met her. She beamed with love when she was with them. Eileen was employed for 40 years working for several financial service companies as an administrative assistant: the last 10 years of her career was with Merrill Lynch, Forest Hills, New York. Eileen loved her Irish heritage. She enjoyed many trips to the Emerald Isle as well as the annual NYC St Patrick’s Day Parade. Arm in arm with her sisters Theresa and Maureen, she proudly marched under the flag of County Sligo- the birthplace of their beloved mother Catherine. She and her sisters always welcomed family and friends to their home with open arms of love! Eileen is likely the world record holder for most compliments given out in a lifetime. Her family, friends, and complete strangers were on the receiving end of countless compliments of how handsome, beautiful, smart, and good they are. She always said “It doesn’t cost anything to say something nice to someone, so why not make a person feel good.”
