Obituary

Ann P. O’Hara, 86 of Amityville NY passed away on July 17, 2023, at her daughter Colleen’s home in South Huntington, NY where she has been living the past several months. Ann was born and raised on a farm in Clondra, County Longford, Ireland to Michael and Mae Egan. She had 7 brothers (PJ, Tommy, Gerry, Alfie, Dermot, Paddy, and Kevin), and 4 sisters (Mary, Christine, Emily, and Doreen). When she was 16, she joined her sister in London, and two years later set off for America to live with her Uncle Jim in Brooklyn. She started working for the AT&T phone company a few days after arriving in the United States. She soon moved to Astoria Queens where she met her future husband Frank O’Hara at a dance hall. The two were married on November 5, 1960, and had three girls (Janet, Eileen, and Colleen). When Colleen started kindergarten Ann enrolled in beauty school and soon received her cosmetology license. She practiced as a hairdresser for over 35 years. Her husband worked as a manager at JFK airport for Sabena airlines which gave them the opportunity to travel all over the world with their girls. They especially loved going back to Ireland and England to spend time with her family. In 1976 Ann and Frank purchased a home in Smallwood NY which served as their country getaway. They would spend many of the warm weekends throughout the year there with their girls, and later on their grandchildren.

.

When Frank retired from his managerial position at JFK airport in 1996, they headed south to Naples Florida where they moved into their newly built home. They loved their gated community and especially enjoyed going to the beach. They became annual snowbirds, traveling back and forth between Naples and Smallwood. In 1998 they became grandparents for the first time when their grandson Joseph was born. In the years that followed they were blessed with five more grandchildren (Grace, Michael, Kate, Andrew, and Jaclyn) and recently two great grandchildren (Bo and Cor). In 2010, Frank passed away and Ann soon sold their Naples home and moved back to be closer to the family, especially her grandchildren, on Long Island. For the past 8 years Ann resided at Dominican Village where she enjoyed long walks, daily mass, and participating in a variety of different social activities. Ann is survived by 5 brothers (Tommy, Gerry, Alfie, Paddy, and Kevin), 4 sisters (Mary, Christine, Emily, and Doreen), her daughter Janet(husband Kenny) and their two grandchildren (Bo and Cor), daughter Eileen(husband Joe) and their two children (Michael and Jaclyn), and daughter Colleen(husband Joe) and their four children(Joseph, Grace, Kate, and Andrew), along with many nieces and nephews.
