Obituary

Eleanor M. Lydon (Doll), 96, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2023. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, the youngest daughter of Eleanor and John F. Lydon. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, New York. As a teacher in the New York City public school system for many years, she touched the lives of countless children who were fortunate enough to have “Miss Lydon” as their teacher. Her devotion to family, kind demeanor, and generous spirit never wavered throughout her life. A devoted sister, she cared for both her ailing siblings until the time of their passing. She was the iconic doting aunty, good neighbor, and lover of any canine or feline in need. The world was definitely a better place with her in it. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Eleanor and John, her siblings, John F. Lydon and Grace Sterritt, and her nephews Steven and James Sterritt. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Katherine (Edward) Walker, Josephine (Joseph) Fitzpatrick, John (Marie) Lydon, Bernadette (Jerry) Hoffman, Susan (Frank) Carazza, Robert (Marcelle) Sterritt, Diane (Keith) Lickfield, Timothy (Carole) Sterritt and many great nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on June 27, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. at Chapey Funeral Home in West Islip, New York followed by a Mass at Saint Patrick’s Church in Bay Shore, New York at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Saint Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York.
