Obituary

Frances Mary Filardi Wolfe, 85, formerly of Ellenville, NY passed away June 10, 2023. She resided in Indian Land, SC for the last 7 years. Fran was born in Flushing Hospital on June 18, 1937 to Edward Joseph and Loretta Hessler Filardi, who resided in Corona, NY. She attended St. Gabriel’s Elementary in East Elmhurst, NY and Bishop McDonnell Memorial HS in Brooklyn, where she graduated in 1955. She attended St John’s University where she received a Bachelors in Education. While at St John’s, she enjoyed being the president of her sorority Delta Sigma Chi. Fran met her husband, Joseph Wolfe, at a sorority/fraternity mixer, which he crashed, and he told her it was love at first sight. They married at St Mel’s church in Flushing, NY on May 28, 1960. They had a beautiful marriage and had 6 children. Fran is survived by her children Maureen (Doug) Ralph, Lori (Bob) Spina, Edward F.X. (Evelyn) Wolfe, Joseph A. (Noreen) Wolfe Jr., and Eileen (Danny) Allen; siblings Mary Ann Zorovich, Edward Filardi, Jr., Carol Filardi; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased in death by her husband of 58 years Joseph A. Wolfe, infant daughter Patricia Wolfe, and her parents.

Fran started her work career as a 1st grade teacher at Jericho School District. Her daughter Lori currently teaches at the same school. Once Fran had children she was a stay-at-home mother. When her kids were all in school she substitute taught at Ellenville School District, then taught Head Start, and was even the Town Tax Collector. She then became a successful realtor and enjoyed a 29 year career where she received many awards. Fran enjoyed her civic duties and was very involved in the Ellenville, NY area. She loved the area and the community. She was a member of the Noonday Club where she was president, Shawangunk Garden Club where she was president, AFS foreign student exchange program and St. Mary & St. Andrew Catholic Church where she taught religious education and sang in the choir. While living in SC she was an active member of the Sun City theater group, birthday club, and other clubs as well as Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Fran enjoyed her friends and activities at Sun City, especially her Z pod friends. Fran was a smart, loyal, and loving sister, wife, mother, cousin, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was dedicated to her family and her Catholic Faith. She wanted everyone to remember that, “Only God is perfect.”

Visitation for Fran Wolfe will be held on Monday, June 19 at Chapey & Sons Funeral Home, 20 Hicksville Rd, Bethpage, NY 11714 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held at 9:45am Tuesday, June 20 at Maria Regina Catholic Church, 3945 Jerusalem Ave., Seaford, NY 11783. Burial at St. John Cemetery, 80-01 Metropolitan Ave., Middle Village, NY 11379 immediately following the Mass.
