Obituary of Jean M. Metallo

Jean Metallo, of Bethpage, passed away in Florida on September 27th on her 93rd birthday. Jean was the first part-time graduate of Molloy College in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She pursued advanced studies earning a Masters in Science from Queens College, permanent certification as a school administrator and supervisor from New York State and a certificate of Advanced Study in Counselor Education from Hofstra University. Jean was a 6th grade teacher at Birch Lane School from 1966 until her retirement after 24 years of teaching in Massapequa. She also worked in Molloy’s Comptroller’s Office, from 1976 to 1984. After retirement, Jean enjoyed her winter home in Florida during which time she was a substitute teacher in the Melbourne schools as well as an instructor in the Florida Air Academy and Keiser College. Jean was a Sister of Saint Dominic of Amityville for 17 years from 1942 to 1959 after which she joined the U.S. Army (WAC) serving in the Orderly Room and the MP Office. Jean’s life exemplified her love of God, country and fellow man: Dominican Sister, soldier and teacher.
