Obituary of Deborah Fusco-Gerek

Debbie Fusco-Gerek, 62 passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018, after a lengthy battle with ALS.  She is survived by her children, Chiara and Stefan Gerek, her brother, John Fusco, her Aunts Lucy Fusco, Frances DeFabritus, Anna Spingola, and Prudy Stamm, her brother in law, Bill Gerek (Carol) as well as many cousins and friends.  Debbie was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Bob Gerek, and her parents, Eugene and Lillian (Gambino) Fusco. Debbie had a love for everything Italian.  She enjoyed traveling to Italy and for many years she ran a business that imported olive oil and food products from her father’s hometown, Itri, Italy.  She also started a school for children to learn Italian.  Debbie was artistic and had a love for photography.  Her creative abilities included designing unique pieces of jewelry. The family will receive relatives and friends from 2:00-4:30 PM and 7:00-9:30 PM on Sunday, January 21, at Chapey Funeral Home, 1225 Montauk Hwy., West Islip, NY.  There will be a funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, January 22, at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 39 North Carll Avenue, Babylon, NY.  Interment will be at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Frank and Patti Spingola, as well as Debbie’s aides, Vicky, Marie, and Marietia for their compassion and help throughout Debbie’s illness.  Memorial donations may be made to the ALS Association.
