Obituary of John Vanderveer Gibson

GIBSON, JOHN VANDERVEER , Born June 15, 1935, of Vero Beach, Florida, formerly of Bay Shore, Long Island, New York. Departed this life December 28, 2017. He had resided in Vero Beach since 2004. Preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Betty Lee (Schroeder) Gibson, and his parents John J. Gibson, Jr. and Cornelia Lott (Vanderveer) Gibson. He is survived by his sons, John Vanderveer Gibson, Jr (Tammy), and Robert Charles Gibson (Monica), grandchildren Derek, Kelly, Allison, Stephanie, Robert, Jessica and Julia. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren. A graduate of Choate Rosemary Hall, Wallingford, CT and Colby College, Waterville, ME, Van started his career with The Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City and retired after 25 years as a vice president. While employed with Chase, Van traveled extensively world wide and thoroughly enjoyed his career. In his spare time he loved deep sea fishing and playing golf. He will remembered for his philanthropy and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Reposing at the Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons West Islip Funeral Home, 1225 Montauk Hwy. (1/4 mile west of the Robert Moses Cswy.). Funeral Service to be held, Saturday 9:30 AM at St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, Bay Shore, LI. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.
