Obituary
Angelica Mendez
September 17, 1934 – September 6, 2023
Angelica was a loving mother, daughter, wife, sister, aunt, friend to many and sister in Christ to her extended Christian family. In life she filled her days with caring for others. First her childhood family. As the oldest of 6 children she often helped to care for her younger siblings, cooking for them and looking out for their well being. As a young mother she devoted her days to providing a warm and nurturing environment for her 5 daughters. Their days were filled with good food, play, outings with family and a warm hug at night.
As her family grew and her daughters became more independent Angelica extended that love beyond her home and started sharing with her church family, work family, neighbors, friends, anyone who needed a hot meal, a listening ear or a voice to help them assert their rights, find their way or in some way make their life better. She had an accomplice in her mission to spread the love. Her loving husband Pedro often accompanied her to deliver meals or to spread some cheer to those around them. Even into their later years, Angelica and Pete served together as volunteers for nursing homes and completed many personal missions together.
Angelica was a fighter and a fierce advocate for anything that is right. She was not afraid to stand up for herself or for others. She fought the onset of dementia and insisted on maintaining her independence for as long as she could before surrendering to the ravaging disease. Even in her illness she provided her family with some lighthearted moments. Her presence filled the room and her personality came through even to the end of her life. Despite the illness she was aware of her surroundings and when she could no longer speak she communicated with her eyes and her facial expressions, much to everyone’s delight.
The end came peacefully.
Angelica was called home on September 6, 2023. Her legacy of love lives on. She will be missed and will always be loved by all who knew her.
