Obituary

Aiden Joseph Redmond, Jr., passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife Margaret (Sullivan) on December 20, 2022 at the age of 92. Married for 68 years, Aiden was devoted to his wife and family in every way possible. He was an exemplary role model for his five children, Mark (Marybeth), Ellen (Edward Farrell), Michael (Adrian), Brian (Julie), and Aiden (Katie). He was adored by his fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and was the cherished sibling of Virginia (Faber), Mary (Faber), Ronald, and Richard (deceased). Born on April 26, 1930, he was the son of Aiden Joseph Redmond, Sr. and Ellen Redmond Kelly. A child of the Depression, raised by his mother after his own father suddenly passed when Dad was only eight years old, he created an incredible life for his family through hard work and determination. He attended Hofstra University at night while working at a Shell gas station during the day. Dad enjoyed his successful career in commercial real estate, whether it be Western Union, Merrill Lynch or Metropolitan Life. He came to be known as the "Mayor of Long Island Railroad," where he happily roamed the aisles eager to strike up a conversation with a good friend or a complete stranger. Upon his retirement he volunteered at the nursing home for the Sisters of St. Joseph in Brentwood. Dad loved people and people loved him, and his greatest legacy will be his sense of humor, warmth, and compassion for others that now lives on in his family.  Reposing at The Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons West Islip Funeral Home, 1225 Montauk Hwy., (1/4 mile west of the Robert Moses Cswy.). Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial Wednesday, Dec. 28 10:45 AM at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, East Islip, LI. Visiting Tuesday, Dec. 27 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
