Obituary

It breaks our hearts to announce that on December 5, 2022 Thomas E. Mawn, Jr., 83, of Levittown, NY passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family and friends after a month long illness. Tom was born on January 14, 1939 in Woodlawn, NY to Thomas & Dorothy Mawn where his family resided until they moved to Bellrose, NY where he grew up and spent his life as an active member of the community, met Mary and they married on September 28, 1963. They lived for a short time in New Hyde Park NY and then moved to Levittown, NY in 1965. Both in Bellrose and in Levittown, Dad was very faithful and very active in the community. He attended St Mary’s High School in Manhasset and loved his time there - he spoke so often about it. He and Mom met when they were part of the Gregorian Society at a dance at St. Gregory’s Roman Catholic Church in Bellrose. Together they volunteered often in Bellrose. They both worked for banks. Dad worked for Citibank and Mom for Chemical Bank in New York City across the street from one another, so they found out after they started to date. Dad worked for Citibank and retired as Assistant Vice President after working there for 42 years. He then worked for 12 years at St. Bernard’s Church as Business Manager. He loved his time there and cherished all the people he worked with. Dad and Mom where members of St. Bernard’s Church for 57 Years. At St. Bernard’s he was a lector, usher, a member of the Holy Name Society and loved working at the Bazaar for many years. He was a member of the Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus, Levittown Kiwanis, Levittown Community Council and the Levittown Chamber of Commerce. He was his son Tommy’s Baseball Coach along with his good friend Jimmy Fox.

.

He was the recipient of many prestigious awards, too many to list. Dad was very proud to be a Distinguished Past President of Levittown Kiwanis, to receive the Kiwanian of the Year Award, the Anton J. Kaiser Award and the George F. Hixson Award through the Kiwanis Club and was honored to have a Lifetime Achievement Award in his name passed down to a deserving recipient each year. He was humbled, so honored. He is predeceased by his daughter Patricia Marie Mawn, his father and mother Thomas E. Mawn, Sr. & Dorothy, brother John (Marie) Mawn, Brother-in-law Jimmy (Mary) White, Sister-in-law Jane (Don) Gates, Sister-in-law Lillian (Bill) Clark and nephew Paul Gates.
