Obituary

Henryetta Peterman, nee Pluschau, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 6th, 2022 at the age of 90. Beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend - Henryetta Peterman will be sorely missed. Henryetta is survived by her children Kevin, Robert, Linda, Jim, and Diane; her sister Carolyn; her grandchildren Erin, Brian, Alicia, Ryan, Breanna, Kevin, Timothy and Grace; and her great grandchildren Christopher, Reyna, Ava, Alec, Andrew and Bryce. Henryetta was born to Wilhelmina Kehl and Henry Pluschau in Brooklyn, NY on August 27th, 1932, who were first generation German immigrants to the US. Henryetta often joked that she was supposed to be a boy named Henry, and that is why Henryetta is spelled with a “y” instead of an “i.” Henryetta met her late husband Kenneth (who lived down the street) in early childhood. The two were married at a young age on November 26th, 1948 and had five children, who in turn gave her eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Henryetta dedicated her life to raising her family, and gave up her dream of becoming a nurse. Although Henryetta was unable finish high school, she was a very intelligent women who later achieved her GED and started a successful career. Henryetta cherished her time at General Microwave, where she met several life-long friends. She was also very proud of the success and accomplishments of her family and loved to brag about them. Many of us knew Henryetta by her bold, witty sense of humor and explicit commentary. Her actions always served to lighten the mood. For her family and close friends, we’ve become all too familiar with Henryetta’s sense of humor over the years. Henryetta would like to let you know that her work here is done. Her new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she will be socializing, dancing, gardening and playing bingo to her heart’s content. Music, laughter and love are guaranteed. Food is delicious, wine is plentiful, and you never gain an ounce. A celebration of Henryetta’s life will be held from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Wednesday, November 16th at Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons Funeral Home, located at 200 East Main Street, East Islip, NY 11730.
