Obituary

It is with deep regret and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Anthony Roses, devoted husband, and loving father. Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1953, the son of Francis and Sarah. Richard had many passions in life. He was an insatiable reader, a true-blue Yankees and bleed green Jets fan. He was an avid swimmer and loved enjoying quiet moments fishing on Long Island. In his youth he was the captain of the Lindenhurst Wrestling team and went on to compete in the state championship in 1971. After high school, Richard traveled to California & Alaska and worked as a bartender at the Copper Kettle. Richard was blessed with a large and loving family. He met his wife, Janet, of 43 years at the Wine Barrel in Babylon, NY. Together they raised three children, to all of whom he dedicated his entire adult life. Richard enjoyed spending time with his family at the beach, on camping trips and frequently taking them on vacations including Disney, Cruises and Hawaii. Well known for hosting a July 4th barbecue for more than 20 years, Richard loved sharing that backyard time with friends and family and, of course, in his swimming pool. Between his early years as owner of the much-loved Wine Barrel in Babylon Village through his successful career and retirement from Winters Brothers, Richard made friends wherever he went and was beloved by many. He could rarely go out without someone stopping him and saying hello. His patience and love were unlimited, and he shared that with all who knew him. Richard passed away with his family by his side, at peace, knowing his was a life well lived. He is survived by his wife Janet, his children Kelly, Richard, Kathryn, and his son-in-law Kenneth, his mother, Sarah and sister, Elizabeth. He was the brother-in-law and uncle to many who loved him dearly.
