Obituary

Seaford, NY Lori Ann Gofter (DeMattia), age 60, passed away on 8/27/2022. She was a graduate of John Adams High School in Ozone Park, NY on January 30, 1979, and received her AAS is Nursing from Kingsborough Community College, Brooklyn, NY on 7/1984. Lori went on to become a Certified Emergency Nurse where she spent 15 years of her career in the Emergency Department at Mercy Medical Center. In 2002, Lori change career paths when she began her employment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). She climbed the clinical ladder and obtained her CN IV on the education tract as well as dual certification in Oncology Nursing and Perianesthesia Nursing. While at MSKCC, Lori obtained her BSN and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Stony Brook University in 5/2004. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the Nursing Honor Society. Lori’s passion for nursing education led her to achieve a MS in Nursing Education from Excelsior College in 10/2015, where she graduated with distinction. She was the 3rd recipient of the Daisy Award at MSKCC in June 2012. Lori dedicated her life to her patients, family, and friends.

Her hobbies included counted cross stitch, home improvement, baking, and sewing Halloween costumes for children. Preceded in death by her cherished grandmother, Viola Pankanin Cleveland, and her loving parents Luca and Dorothy DeMattia. Survived by her devoted daughter, Stefanie Lemus, and adored GiGi to Kylie. Also survived by her loving sisters Karen Gonzalez (Charlie), Caroline DeMattia-Barrucci (Steve & Dee), Donna Barbera (Anthony), and Debbie. Loving Aunt to Luca, Angelo, Alexa, Christopher, Mark (Taylor), Nikki, Gina (Steve), Christina, Anthony, and Joey. Loving Great-Aunt to Gabby, Luciana, Giovanni, Niko, Luca, and Alana. Wake Services will be held on Friday 9/2/2022 at Chapey & Sons, 20 Hicksville Road, Seaford, NY 11783. The family will receive visitors from 3-5 & 7-9 on 9/2/2022. Funeral Mass will be held at St. James R.C. Church, 80 Hicksville Road, Seaford, NY 11783 at 10:30 AM followed by a Christian burial at St. Charles Cemetery 2015 Wellwood Avenue, Farmingdale, NY 11735.
