Obituary

Frances Catherine Thorek was born on Aug. 21, 1934 in the Bronx to Frank and Antonia Thorek. Frances grew up on Blackrock Ave. and attended Holy Family School up the block, and Preston prep school, graduating in 1952. She went to work at the Equitable Life Assurance Society, where she met her future husband of 38 years, Joseph G. Molloy. They married in 1954 at St. Stephen of Hungary Church in Manhattan, and had their first child when Joseph was 21 and Frances was 20, raising four children altogether on Blackrock Ave. In 1965, the family moved to Farmingdale, L.I. Frances worked as a secretary at Northside School, later earning an associate’s degree at SUNY Farmingdale and then graduating with a teaching degree from St. Joseph’s University in Patchogue at the age of 46. She was a devout parishioner of St. Martin of Tours church in Bethpage, and part of its prayer group which carried the statue of the Blessed Mother to pray in members’ homes on Saturdays. She was a devotee of Padre Pio. Mostly, she devoted herself to her children Joanna [George Rush]; Laurie Ann Barzelatto; Joseph F. Molloy [Dana Lichtman], and Diane Molloy; and to her beloved grandchildren, Jennifer Molloy-Martinez [Alex Martinez]; Katie Barzelatto; Maximillian Williams; Zachary Williams; Rebecca Williams; Rachel Molloy; and Eamon; and her adored great-grandchildren Sophia and Xander Martinez. Frances was a talented cook and baker and phenomenal gardener; an intrepid traveler, especially with Shannon, Danny, Katie and Patty McFadden and her in-laws Patsy Edwards and Juliette and Peter Arcario.
