Obituary

Nancy Peters (DiCicco) died on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at her Central Islip home, with her beloved husband Bill by her side. Nancy, the daughter of Gertrude and Thomas DiCicco, was born on September 13, 1949 in Brooklyn, NY. Having grown up in Wantagh, she spent most of her adult years on Long Island, where she worked as a Registered Nurse and raised her beautiful family. In 1970, Nancy graduated from Queens Hospital Center School of Nursing, after which she worked as a geriatric private duty nurse, head nurse at Central General Hospital, and later as a nurse case manager for a private firm. It had been Nancy’s dream since childhood to pursue a career in nursing, particularly in the field of caring for the elderly population. Nancy wed William “Bill” Peters on August 27, 1989, blending together a family comprised of children from both of their previous marriages. She and her husband lived a blessed and active life raising their four teenaged children in Hicksville. Nancy was a woman devoted to her love for God and family. When her children were young, she worked the night shift to be available for their daytime school activities. She was a PTA president, class mother, and “pseudo-mom” to many of her children’s neighborhood friends. Having the gift of hospitality, Nancy loved cooking for her family and guests, preparing countless special Sunday dinners and elaborate holiday meals. She is also remembered for her incredible musical talent. Nancy’s singing voice was one of her greatest gifts, and throughout her life she used it to glorify her Lord as a faithful member of her church choirs.

.

An avid Bible reader and true prayer warrior (co-workers had dubbed her “the prayer lady”), Nancy had a deep and abiding faith in Jesus, her Savior. She loved the Lord with all her heart, and even in her darkest moments of sickness, Nancy continued to praise Him each morning with Psalms and worship songs. She carried the Gospel message to all she knew, always reminding her children and grandchildren to trust and obey God’s word. Nancy is survived by her devoted husband Bill; three adult children, Jennie (Ian) Fischer, Jenn (Greg) Thylstrup, and Bill (Diana) Murphy; four cherished grandsons, Luke, Tommy, Andrew, and Charlie; sister Susan; niece Missy (Jason); two grandnieces, Peyton and Corinne; many close cousins and longtime friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly. As a true servant of the Lord, Nancy will be remembered as a lady generous with her time, advice, and finances. Her faith and her family meant everything to her life. A strong and loving woman who always spoke her mind and gave her heart, she fought the good fight until the end.
