Obituary

On April 21, 2022, Mary E. Alfano of Brightwaters, NY passed peacefully one month shy of her 87th birthday. Surrounded by her family during the last weeks of her life, Mary continued to make them laugh and cry as they supported her on her journey home. Mary was predeceased by her husband, C. Michael Alfano, more than 15 years ago after being married for more than 50 years and has rejoined him to continue where they left off. Mary felt blessed to have 2 children, Margaret and Michael, and later their spouses, Christopher and Kellie, and 5 grandchildren, Brian, Jen, Katie, Carlo and Bella. She was very involved in their lives! She is also survived by her younger sister, Jane McMorrow and her younger brother, Paul Brennan. Despite battling several serious illnesses in her lifetime, she lived to joyfully experience 2 great grandchildren, Max and Zachary, visiting recently after the youngest, Zachary, was born. She truly enjoyed spending time with family, and was known for her wonderful, and slightly irreverent, sense of humor. She was courageous and strong, loving and honest. She was a tremendous source of comforting advice for life’s challenges and all of her children and grandchildren will sorely miss having those conversations with her because they simply made you feel better. Her family is left with many “Mary” stories and memories and we will miss her deeply. Mary was a 60 year member of Saint Patrick’s Church in Bay shore where funeral services will be held at 9:45am Monday April 25th 2022. The family will receive friends at Chapey & Sons Funeral Home, 200 E Main St, East Islip, NY from 2-4pm, and 7-9:30pm Sunday April 24th, 2022. She had a strong devotion to the blessed mother, and as a mother, felt a special closeness to her. She said the rosary often, using the beads her beloved husband gave her on their wedding day.
