Obituary

Horstmann – Dorothy A. “Dot,” of Hauppauge, LI, passed away on February 27, 2022. Devoted mother of Anne M. Horstmann, John Horstmann and Ellie (Michael) Walker. Cherished grandmother of Patrick (Justine), Kelly and Conor. Predeceased by her loving parents Edward & Eleanor McRedmond and her dear siblings Edward McRedmond, Ellen Tolan, Dennis McRedmond & Richard McRedmond. Dorothy received her Bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph’s College and a Masters from Creighton University. She went on to Co-Author two books and authored a monthly column for National Catholic Magazine and Long Island Catholic. Co-founder At Home Retreats, where she trained countless individuals to lead the program both in the US and Internationally. Dot was an International acclaimed speaker of religious topics and a Trained Spiritual Director whom taught at the seminary as part of discernment weekends. She was an active member of St. Mary’s RC Church of East Islip and also was the Director of Religious Education, as well as a Pastoral Associate there for many years. Reposing at The Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons East Islip Funeral Home, 200 East Main Street (1/2 Mile West of the S.S. Parkway, Exit 45). Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, East Islip, LI, on Thursday at 10:45 AM. Private Cremation. In lieu of flowers, Dorothy’s loving family suggests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Visitation Wednesday 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
