Obituary

Priscilla Mah Wong, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at the age of 86. She was the loving mother to Craig and Bryant Wong, as well as a devoted grandmother to Bryant Charles Wong and Dylan Sierra Wong, of whom she was incredibly proud. Priscilla was grateful for the love of her daughters-in law, Susan and Kelley. Priscilla is also survived by her “big sister”, Ming Ching Yeh and her caring brothers, Edward, George and Richard Mah. Priscilla was very fond of her loving sisters-in-law (Outlaws), whom she vacationed with often, Petrea Mah, Mary Mah and Mary Clooney. Sadly, Priscilla lost her younger brother, Howard, just a year ago and had lost her other sister, Ming Shu to cancer in 1962.

.

Priscilla was born in Shanghai, China in 1935, later immigrating with her family to the U.S. in 1947 and settling down in Forest Hills, Queens. Priscilla attended college in New York and became a naturalized U.S. Citizen in 1962. Around the same time, Priscilla met the love of her life, Ging Wong, at a bridge game, amongst friends. Ging was a World War II Army veteran, who supported the Flying Tigers unit in China, in the Signal Corps and was now working as an electrical engineer for the City of New York. The two were married in June 1963 and settled down in Queens. In 1970 Priscilla and Ging adopted their son Craig Alexander and three years later, in 1973, adopted his brother, Bryant Dean. While raising her boys, Priscilla worked as a secretary at a local bank, saving money so her and Ging could buy a small summer home in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. Ging did not love the idea, but Priscilla insisted on having a fun place for her boys to escape Rego Park, Queens every summer. Priscilla spent every summer with her boys at that summer Pocono house, shuttling her boys to swim lessons, sports, arts/crafts, friend hangouts, road trips to town to shop or catch a movie, all while Ging would work in the city and commute to the summer house on Friday nights. Priscilla later let her boys talk her into getting a puppy named “Lucky”, who lived up to her name, joining the boys at the Pocono house.

.

As in most Asian households, Priscilla and Ging instilled the importance of getting a college education for their kids and saved every dollar they could to ensure that promise. In 1995, with their boys out of college and into full-time careers, Ging and Priscilla sold both the Queens and Pocono homes and moved to The Villages, Florida. Priscilla may as well have been a sales representative for the The Villages, because she was always beaming with pride, explaining how wonderful their new retirement community was, to anyone in the family who would listen. Priscilla, arguably not the best driver, was most proud that she could SAFELY take her golf cart to all her recreational and shopping activities, anytime of the day, without having to worry about snow anymore! She knew all the best places to eat “good” Chinese food and loved that everything was incredibly convenient! Priscilla loved hosting her boys and later, her beautiful grandchildren, in sunny Florida. During family visits, Priscilla could be found watching her grandkids at the pool or down at the Town Square at night, getting ice cream and admiring Bryant Charles and Dylan Sierra’s dancing to the music. Sadly, Priscilla lost Ging in 2011, but remained in The Villages, surrounded by neighborhood friends until 2019, when she moved back to New York so her sons and daughters-in-law could now look after her. With her health in decline, Priscilla then moved into Assisted Living and finally, to a nursing home, where she could receive 24-hour care. After suffering from a heart attack, Priscilla passed away at the hospital, with her sons at her side.
