Obituary

July 29, 1925 - December 27, 2021 Amityville, New York Salvatore "Beeps" Villante passed away peacefully on December 27, 2021. Born and raised in Jackson Heights, NY, he was the first of three children born to Joseph and Frances Villante. Sal was a proud WWII veteran who served in the US Navy. He was a member of the University of Miami's boxing team. While training other boxers in Jackson Heights, Sal had the opportunity to spar with the great Rocky Marciano. As a kid, he and his brother often "practiced" with the New York Yankees. His working life was spent in service, starting as a bartender, then a popular nightclub manager, and finally the owner of an Italian restaurant in Manhattan, Mama Laura's, where, on any night, you might spot a celebrity such as Tommy Lasorda, Joe DiMaggio, or Jackie Kennedy. Sal was married to Barbara Cavicchioli for 62 years where they raised their family in Island Park, NY, for 55 years. Sal is survived by his brother Tom Villante, daughter Karen Villante, daughter Janet Ben-Ami and her husband, Oded-Ben-Ami, son Stephen Villante and his wife, Marie Villante, as well as his grandson Michael Ben-Ami and Michael’s wife Alex Menglide, grandsons Robert Villante and Liam Villante, and great granddaughter Kaia Charlotte Ben-Ami. While a lifelong baseball and golf fan, Sal took immense pride in watching his grandsons excel in their respective sporting activities.

.

After Hurricane Sandy damaged their Island Park home, Sal and Barbara moved to Dominican Village in Amityville, NY, where they made new friends with everyone they met, and thus began the next chapter in their lives. A Memorial service will be held at Chapey Funeral Home, 20 Hicksville Road, Bethpage, NY on Sunday, January 16, 2022, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Sal's ashes will be interred at Holy Rood Cemetery on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Sal's name be made to Dominican Village, Finance Department, 565 Albany Ave, Amityville, NY 11701.
