Obituary

Warren Francis Schaefer, of Plainedge, LI, on May 20,2021 Cherished father of Mackenzie Savaiano (Eric). Adored grandfather of Remy and Clara. Beloved brother of Barbara Kirby, Irene Meeuwisse (Casey), Paul Schaefer, and Vincent Schaefer (Mary Ellen). Born in Brooklyn August 28,1944, Warren’s family moved to Plainedge where he grew up in a house built by his parents, graduated school, attended college studying architecture, met and married Arleen Hartnig and started a family.  He began a 19-year career as a teacher in BOCES until his attentions turned to film and theater. He formed his own video production company where he shot and voiced pieces for PBS, YES, SNY and ESPN.  Equally at home in front of the camera, Warren’s rich baritone voice graced many shows on LI stages for over 4 decades.  Some of his favorite roles were Charlie Anderson in “Shenandoah”, Petrucchio in “Kiss Me Kate” and Don Quixote in “Man of La Mancha”.  Like vintage wine he gracefully “aged” from Lt.Cable to Emile DeBecque in “South Pacific” and from Lancelot to King Arthur in “Camelot”. Warren believed that while our roles may change as we act on, we never retire from live theater! In life his roles changed also and his most favorite had to be that of father and grandfather. Warren was so proud of the accomplishments of his very talented daughter, Mackenzie and delighted in creating storybooks about the fun adventures he shared with his two granddaughters. Yes, Warren was the ultimate storyteller! He could embellish any narrative from a trove of trivia that never ran dry. His family always kidded that whatever anyone else could say in one word, Warren could say in ten!  Warren will always be remembered for filling the lives of his family and friends with love, laughter, music and a passion for life. He so loved life at any stage and lived it to the fullest! Warren, your song may have ended but the melody lingers on!
