Obituary

Elvira DePersis, 77, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 31, 2020 at her home in Dania Beach, Florida. Born on July 15, 1943 in Veroli, Frosinone Italy, she was the only daughter of the late Pietro and Costanza Crescenzi. She married the late Celestino DePersis in January 1960 and went on to share 57 years of marriage with him. While living with her in-laws in Italy, her husband returned to the United States to complete his citizenship. She was able to join him in Queens, New York in May 1964. They settled in N. Massapequa, New York in July 1967 and the following year she became a naturalized citizen. Elvira was a homemaker who raised her children with love and discipline. There was always a delicious home cooked meal waiting for the family at the end of the day. Her grandchildren will especially remember her for her willingness to prepare one of their favorite Italian dishes when they visited.

~

She enjoyed growing a vegetable garden and enjoyed sharing the abundance with her neighbors and friends. She was a caring, kind and loving woman who always lent a helping hand to all. She will be remembered with love by the rest of her family: daughter Maria Teresa Klicpera, son Larry DePersis, daughter Celestina Iwanejko and her husband Robert, son Orlando DePersis and his wife Nancy. She was the proud grandmother of Gregory Klicpera, Matteo DePersis, Karla Iwanejko, Charles Iwanejko and Bella DePersis. She is also survived by her brother Ignazio Crescenzi and his wife Vincenza and her brother Sante Crescenzi and his wife Liliana and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brother Carlo Crescenzi and her brother-in-law Americo DePersis. Visitation at Frederick J. Chapey & Sons Funeral Home, 20 Hicksville Road, Bethpage, NY 11714 on Monday, August 17, 2020 from 4:00-8:00pm. A Funeral Liturgy at St. James RC Church, 80 Hicksville Road, Seaford, NY 11783 on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 11:30am.
