Obituary

Rose Hodukavich, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2020 at the age of 90. Born in Brooklyn, New York to Rose and Walter Tremel in 1930, Rose worked as a seamstress at Henri Bendel, a luxury clothing store, after she graduated from high school. Rose married Stanley Hodukavich on April 21, 1951. They settled in East Islip in the house they built, where they raised their six children and faithfully attended St. Mary’s Church. Rose and Stan were devoted to their children, creating a home full of love, fun, curiosity and sense of adventure. They loved gardening, family gatherings, boating to Fire Island and clamming in the Great South Bay. They took their brood camping every summer throughout New York, the northeast, Pennsylvania and Delaware. After her beloved Stan died in 1974, Rose raised their six children on her own, continuing the family’s favorite vacation, camping at Hither Hills State Park at Montauk. Rose loved to travel, going as far as Hawaii and Japan. In 1994, Rose married her second husband, Fred [Ferdinand] Kokoska (deceased). In Fred she found a loving companion in her senior years. She devoted herself to her new Kokoska family. The couple enjoyed their Florida home and going on cruises in the Caribbean with their friends. Throughout her life, Rose was very creative: she loved baking, crafts, sewing, painting, jewelry making, playing Bingo and card games. Rose is survived by her six children, Barbara (Richard), Stanley (Antoinette), Marie (Fred), David (Vicky) Susan (Bernie) and Rose Ann; grandchildren, Richard (Lauren), Edmund (Mallory), Jason (Jessica), Curtis, Michael, Paul (Tara), Louis, Holly, Carolyn, Meaghan (Cody), Phillip and Bernadette (Andrew) and greatgrandchildren, Damien, Emmalyne, Booker and Atticus, Charlotte, Logan, Skylar and Matthew.

.

Her marriage to Fred brought her three adult step-children – Eileen (deceased) (John), Patricia (Larry) and Frank, and four granddaughters – Lauren and Diana (Mike), Theresa (John) Stephanie (John) and great-grandchildren Adele, Garrett and Max. Rose is predeceased by her parents, her brother Walter and her sister Annamae. Private family services will be held on May 29, 2020, followed by interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. We request that friends and family who wish, make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association.
