You can take the Dodgers out of Brooklyn, but you can’t take the Brooklyn out of the Dodger boy! Lover of all sports. Definitely a baseball player from a young age, he was scouted by the Dodgers’ Branch Rickey for their AAA Farm Team as a pitcher. As a young man in the early/mid 1950’s, Bob was involved in a period of dramatic U.S. social changes, including baseball integration. Bob’s early experiences exposed him to injustices during which he was an advocate for the equality of all. After his military service (Army) in Panama, Bob returned to NY and eventually moved to Long Island with his family leading to his career as a physical education teacher at Coram Elementary School. Active member of St. Patrick’s parish for many years and directly involved with the creation of St. Patrick’s School gymnasium. Active member of the Daniel A. Tobin, Knights of Columbus and the Ancient Order of Hibernians (Our Lady of Knock, East Islip, NY). Throughout his life, Bob was devoted to his faith and his reverence to the Blessed Virgin Mary and his charitable/philanthropic activities. Helping friends and family was a large part of his life. Bob loved the beach, family vacations, sporting events, parties, Ireland, and the occasional libation. Of the most importance to Bob was making all gatherings special. All moments deserve a special toast; as the Irish salute goes, “Slainte!”
