Obituary

On Sunday September 8, 2019, William (Bill) Higney, age 62, died from cardiac arrest at his home in Uniondale, NY. Bill was born on June 23, 1957 in Uniondale, NY to Henrietta and William Higney. He was a dedicated worker for 38 years for the Town of Hempstead before retiring in November of 2016. He enjoyed a relaxing lifestyle with family, filled with music and fun ever since. As a young boy, Bill had a passion for playing the drums. It was at this young age where his love of music began. He held a special regard for classic rock, but he had a knowledge and understanding of all music genres that was far beyond the reach of most. Bill will be remembered most for his kind, easy-going, gentle manner, and his unexpected wit. Bill was preceded in death by his father, William, his mother, “Peggy” (Follmer), and his nephew, Kurt William Socha. He is survived by his sister’s Susan Higney, Nancy (husband Joseph Garritano), Jeanne (husband Raymond Socha), Ellen Higney (Ronald Riehl), Marie (husband Fred Jackson), four nieces, two nephews, and his many cousins. A memorial service will be held on Sunday September 22nd at Fredrick E. Chapey Funeral Home in Bethpage, NY from 11am-12pm. All are welcome to join a Celebration of Life luncheon from 12:30-3:30. The family would like to honor Bill with an upbeat celebration and asks for anyone willing to share a story, a memory, a joke, or anything that would contribute to remembering his smile. The celebration will most definitely include a rock & roll vibe. If you would like to continue his love of music, donations can be made to the Musicians Foundation which helps musicians whose careers have been interrupted by illness, accidents, family tragedy, and financial distress. Click Here to visit website to Donate
