Obituary of Anthony C. Baccelliere

Anthony C. “Tony” Baccelliere was born Antonio Canio Donato Baccelliere on June 4, 1933 in Brooklyn New York. He was the youngest child of Donato and Maria Baccelliere, brother to Teresa Ognibene (deceased), Michael Baccelliere (deceased) and Elizabeth Sanders.

As a child during the Depression, his entrepreneurial spirits blossomed early with a shoe shining and scrap metal collection business. The star shortstop of the Greenpoint Tigers and the Director and lead of PS 132’s production of “See Here Private Hargrove”, he knew the confines of his small hometown could never hold him. He set out to see the world and enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Everett F. Larson DDG830, as a Radarman from 1952-1956.

Returning to his native Brooklyn, he later met and married the prettiest girl in all of Kings County, Elizabeth Ann Murray on Nov 23, 1963.

Tony and Betty moved to Farmingdale, NY in 1965 where they raised their 4 children, Dan, Catherine, Marie and Anthony. With a keen eye for details, Tony entered the accounting field and retired from the USPS in 1989.

In 2003, after several years of snow birding to the Ft Lauderdale area, Tony and Betty moved to the Villages permanently. He loved his big band and jazz music, golfing, bowling and hanging out with his buddies but most of all he loved his family.

Repeatedly beating cancer for over 30 years, the treatments finally took their toll. Tony passed two months shy of his 85th birthday on April 3, 2018 surrounded and survived by his wife of 54 years Elizabeth A. Baccelliere, his children Dan Baccelliere, Catherine Baccelliere, Marie and Pat Stramandinoli, Anthony and Stefanie Baccelliere and his grandchildren Stephanie, Nicholas, Joseph, Nicole, Antonia and Steven.

Viewing will be on Sunday April 8th 2-4:30pm and 7-9:30pm and a mass will be held on Monday April 9, 2018 9:15 am at St. James Catholic Church in Bethpage, NY. He will be interred at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery later that day.
