Obituary of Martha Hoey

Martha Hoey, 80, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2018 at Southside Hospital. She was a resident of the Family Residences and Essential Enterprises (FREE) group home on Meeks Lane in Islip, NY, and attended the Knickerbocker Day Habilitation program in Bohemia for many years. Martha was born to Joseph and Susan Margaret Hoey on May 1, 1937. She was pre-deceased by her parents and her sister Mary Lindsay. Martha is survived by her nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as the caring staff and house-mates at the Meeks Lane group home. We will all miss her helpful nature, her needlework and craft skills, her amazing memory for the names of family and friends, and her love of chocolate-covered cherries. 

The family wishes to convey their thanks for the support provided to Martha by the caring staff around her. The family is especially grateful to Elizabeth Accettella, as well as to Ed, Dawn, China and John, and many others who worked with Martha. Family and friends are welcome to call 4-7 P.M. on Tuesday, March 13th and to attend a memorial service on March 14th 11:30 A.M. at the Chapey and Sons Funeral Home in West Islip.
