Obituary of Lawrence William Peters

Peters- Lawrence William of Bay Shore, NY died peacefully in his sleep on March 9th at the age of 88. Loving husband of Selma, father of son Brian, his wife Maria Teresa, and daughters Susan, and her husband Robert Eng, and the late Lauri, and beloved grandpa to Alina, Christopher, Eric, Matthew, Timothy and William, and friend to many more. Avid golfer and longtime member of Southward Ho Country Club, Larry's family and friends were his love and joy. He also loved helping others in the community. His sense of humor brightened everyone's encounters. After serving in the Korean War, he began his banking career. From beginning as a "runner", he rose to be the Vice Chairman and a director of The Dime Savings Bank of New York. He then joined Long Island Savings Bank, retired in 1995, and in 1997 returned as President and Chief Operating Officer. He also served as a Director of Astoria Bank. Reposing at the Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons West Islip Funeral Home, 1225 Montauk Hwy. (1/4 mile west of the Robert Moses Cswy.). Funeral service will be held at the funeral home, Monday 12:30 PM. Interment Greenfield Cemetery, Uniondale, LI. Visiting Sunday 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
